With an electrical fault the electrician searches systematically: which circuit trips, which appliance or connection point causes the short, and whether the wiring or the fuse box itself is the problem. A fault leaving (part of) the home without power gets priority with the affiliated electricians.
Expect € 100 to € 300 including diagnosis, depending on how deep the fault sits. Outside office hours an emergency surcharge applies — before the professional sets off, ask for the hourly rate (€ 50-85), call-out costs and any surcharge.
If you smell burning near a socket or the meter cupboard, switch off the circuit involved (or the main switch) right away and have the installation checked before switching back on. With smoke or flames, call 112 first.
